The Daily Sucker - Current examples of bad web design

The Daily Sucker

Sites featured in articles like Worst Websites of 2010 often are redesigned, which explains why some sites mentioned in my articles don't match their current look. The Daily Sucker features current examples of bad web design which haven't been fixed (yet).

If you see a site that you think sucks, email the URL to me. No personal pages (personal pages are supposed to reflect the individual's personality and artistic freedom) or web site designers (it would look like a conflict of interest), or others of their ilk.

If I think there's some merit to your selection, I may post it along with some commentary. If you know of a site that qualifies, let me know.

The Daily Sucker - an example of bad web design

Submitters’ comments:
It’s just a mess of text, links, and photos all about their decorated cars. Not even nicely decorated cars, rather they’re plastered with pro-smoking slogans (yes, pro-smoking…), anti-liberal rants, and religious texts. Their “old home page” linked at the top is naturally even more abysmal.

Vincent Flanders’ comments: I was too scared to click the link to the old home page. Yesterday, we had HIM Clothing the Alpha of bad web design and today we have the Omega of bad web design. I’m a BIG First Amendment proponent (with a name like Web Pages That Suck I’d have to be) so his rants don’t bother me because they’re too hard to read. He needs PARAGRAPHs!!!!!! It’s a classic example of Mistake #6 from Biggest Mistakes in Web Design 1995-2015Have you ever seen another web site? Really? Doesn’t look like it. I call this type of design the “I haven’t taken my anti-psychotics in a while school of web design.”

The Daily Sucker - an example of bad web design

Submitters’ comments: This site for some reason adopts the confusing scrolling and awful HTML5 seen in you worst of 2013’s website 1927 Events. The photos are great quality but the site navigation is nothing short of abysmal.

Vincent Flanders’ comments: I just love the fact that there’s no logo. On a portrait monitor, the navigation ends up at the bottom of the screen. Navigation at the top. There’s plenty of room and you won’t mess up our pensive Pretty Boy Floyd’s hair. This is the 2014 stereotypical website.

The Daily Sucker - an example of bad web design

Vincent Flanders’ comments: OK. We have our #1 Contender for Worst Website of 2014. It pains me deeply because I majored in Classics at Wabash College and to see what they’ve done here is sad.

Some of the issues are:

  • Mystery Meat Navigation
  • Flash – doesn’t work on mobile.
  • Justified text on the home page

It’s just a crazy looking website. Their “old home page” linked at the top is naturally even more abysmal.

Vincent Flanders’ comments: Well, I’m glad the old home page is “even more abysmal” than the new one we’re looking at. It would be very, very depressing it it looked better.

The site is another classic example of Mistake #6 from Biggest Mistakes in Web Design 1995-2015Have you ever seen another web site? Really? Doesn’t look like it. I call this type of design the “I haven’t taken my anti-psychotics in a while school of web design.”

Doesn’t anybody ever look at other websites out there?

Illuminati Exposers – The Our Beliefs Page – An Example of Bad Web Design for September 29, 2014

The Daily Sucker - an example of bad web design

Submitter’s comments: Someone left a business card for something called “Illuminati Exposers” lying around at work, so I decided to check out the website (being interested in this sort of conspiracy theory stuff). I thought, “I’ve seen worse documented here but it’s still worthy of submission.”

Gotta love the multicoloured texts, garish images, over-long pages, and general suckiness of the site. Now to go and clear up the blood that’s oozing out of my eyes…

What’s really sad is that Edward Snowden has made conspiracy theories believable – because he’s shown the government is out to get us. Nobody will take this site seriously. I don’t even know if they should because “Why would I want to read a site that doesn’t look credible?”
