The Daily Sucker - Current examples of bad web design

The Daily Sucker

Sites featured in articles like Worst Websites of 2010 often are redesigned, which explains why some sites mentioned in my articles don't match their current look. The Daily Sucker features current examples of bad web design which haven't been fixed (yet).

If you see a site that you think sucks, email the URL to me. No personal pages (personal pages are supposed to reflect the individual's personality and artistic freedom) or web site designers (it would look like a conflict of interest), or others of their ilk.

If I think there's some merit to your selection, I may post it along with some commentary. If you know of a site that qualifies, let me know.

VacAway – Daily Example of Bad Web Design for January 6, 2011

Submitter’s comments: Here’s a BAD website for ya!

Vincent Flanders’ comments: Actually, I don’t have a clue how s/he got to this page from the home page (it might be a landing page for an email). The worst problem—and there were many to choose from—is that when you mouse over to the Products menu, most of the items on the menu were hidden by the January Special Flash animation.

The home page is deliriously silly. Flash animations galore inside table cells that are outlines. I was so distracted by the animations, I forgot to try to figure out what the site was about.

It’s a classic example of Mistake #6 from Biggest Mistakes in Web Design 1995-2015Have you ever seen another website? Really? Doesn’t look like it.

Worse, “Have you ever seen a website from a competitor?” On a whim, I typed in rugdoctor.com and was taken to a website that’s infinitely better although it sucks a lot because of a lack of contrast. You look at the page and you know exactly what they’re selling.

nomec – The English Translation is “This Sucks” – Daily Sucker for December 31, 2010 / January 4, 2011

January 4th, 2011 2:02 am by Vincent Flanders

Submitter’s comments: I thought you might like this site. It might be Latin or it’s just a template with lorem-ipsum generated text. I’m not sure, because the font is too small and I can’t read it. My personal favorite: the menu runs away when you try moving your mouse over it.

Vincent Flanders’ comments: WTF! This is Mystery Meat Navigation (MMN) at its worst. Well, it may not be the worst, because the worst is something I made up—Random Mystery Meat (see below)

random web navigation is not good web navigation

Yes, I know there is regular text navigation at the bottom, but that doesn’t excuse the use of MMN.

This is so horrible, I’m putting it in at the “end” of 2010 and the beginning of 2011 so I can use it as an example of Worst Site of the Year.
