Vincent Flanders' Two-Minute Offense

Analysis of the daily site for Apr. 22, 2002

Site: Fayette Pools
URL: www.fayettepools.com

Vincent found the following flaws:

1. Looks like we've got cascading style sheets gone amuck — at least in IE
5.5.

2. We've got the "Fayette Pools" overlapping the main text.

3. Also "liner patterns" is on two lines? Why?

4. The "about us" page has overlapping title text. Also there's a
purple box on two sides and I don't understand why it's there.

5. Why is the text centered on this page?

6. The Home text isn't a link, but the graphic is. Stupid.

7. The price list doesn't have overlapping text — because the top is an image.

8. There is some overlapping text on the page and the button looks weird because
the text flows off of it.

9. The title text on the "liner patterns" page overlaps the regular
text.

10. On the contact page — the last digit of the phone number is obscured by
the tile.

You found the following flaws in two minutes:

It all sucks.

Please Note: The Two-Minute Offense is not intended to be an in-depth usability study. After all, we're only giving ourselves two minutes to look at a page. The goal is to help you develop the mindset of looking at and analyzing Web pages quickly and, hopefully, more effectively than you've been doing.
